I'm starting to look into moving to some place with a little better job
market. Currently I live at home and require assistance for day-to-day
living, which isn't something that's likely to change, which means
moving entails a lot of variables with my family, but I'm trying to
start the ball rolling.

1. Is Vocational Rehab any help in these matters, helping find a new job?

2. If so, should I contact the VocRehab place here in town or in the
town I'm looking at moving to?

3. Are there any specific realty agencies who can help find houses with
handicap facilities?

4. Is there anything I'm not asking that I need to ask? And is there
any other forum where this is more on-topic?

Thanks in advance, everyone!

Do you live in the US? If so, the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation is a
good start for employment. It's also a good start for educational
assistance. I know they helped me pay for books and supplies while I got my
MA. They also helped me move since education and employment were both
guaranteed. They would've given me assistance with tuition, except I had
come to the point where I could work as a teaching assistance, which gave me
free tuition and a stipend. It also produced a long term job once I
completed. I eventually ( about 10 years later) wound up back on disability,
but no longer through SSA, so the whole thing was still a plus. I did a cost
analysis for BVR... what the government saved by helping me get back to
work... including what I was then paying back into the system in terms of
taxes, etc.... after I'd been working for about 5 years. They loved it
because it really helped them make a case for their services.

Finding housing... that depends. If you're looking for government assisted
housing, check the HUD website. I'll caution you at this, though. Depending
on the city, you could be putting yourself into a very high crime area, so
it would be best if you could actually visit the city and look at the
complexes before putting in your application. Each complex requires separate
applications. Another place to check in many states are the Metropolitan
Housing Authorities for the county or city in question. Some have huge
waiting lists. Others don't. In my city, the huge list is for Section 8
housing, but the Metropolitan owned complexes have a shorter waiting list.

If you're looking for non-subsidized housing, I'm not sure if there are any
specialized realtors in the area where you're wanting to live. You would
probably have to name the city for someone to give you ideas.

Thank you! That answers my question, and gives me a good bit of hope,
as I'm also looking into an MA. It's nice to know my questions have a
pretty good answer.

I really appreciate your reply. Thank you.
